Inserting a Picture
============================================================
You've got a great picture to illustrate your text, and you know exactly where you want it to be positioned.
First, move to the location where you want the image. Then, choose Insert > Picture, and then pick From File, Clip Art, or another graphic object. (If a drawing canvas-an area where you can draw multiple shapes-appears, press [Esc] to cancel. The drawing canvas will be covered in a future issue).
Once you insert the picture, however, it can not be moved or floats off the page or seems to be cut off, which is not what you had in mind. When a picture is inserted into your Word document, its default placement is In Line With Text. That is, Word inserts the picture where your cursor is, even though it may not be aligned properly with the text around it. Many times, however, you will want to change the way text wraps around your image.

How to Position a Graphic
============================================================
If you want to change how your picture is positioned with text, choose from these options:
* Text Wrapping-Picture Toolbar
* Format > Picture Menu (for specific positions)

Text Wrapping Styles
============================================================
After you insert a graphic, choose from a variety of wrapping styles to modify the layout of the text in relation to the graphic. For graphic examples of your text wrapping options:

Text Wrapping Trick
============================================================
It's likely the default text wrapping option, In Line With Text, is not going to be your preferred option especially if you want specific control over the position of graphics in your Word documents.
Here's a little known trick for changing your default text wrapping style in most versions of Microsoft Word:
1. Tools > Options
2. Click on the Edit tab
3. For the option, Insert/paste pictures as, choose your preferred text wrapping style and then select OK to set your new defaults.

Spend a little time learning more about text wrapping options and positioning pictures for easy placement of clip art, photos, and other graphics in your Microsoft Word documents.
