|  | | Feature Article | Watermarks: How to Add DRAFT to a Word Document Many Word documents are a work in progress requiring multiple reviewers and edits before they are final. What if you want to more clearly indicate a file is a draft or confidential? Would it be a neat look to add your company logo as a background image to each page in a Word document? Adding background text or an image is easy with the watermark feature in Microsoft Word. Word 2007 even includes a gallery of ready-made watermarks or you can create your own custom watermark. It's also simple to add a background color or picture to your document. To add a watermark in Word 2010 and Word 2007: - Select the Page Layout tab.
- Choose Watermark (in the Page Background group).
- Select from a group of common options including CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, URGENT or pick Custom Watermark to add a graphic or your own customized text watermark.
- Build your custom watermark from the choices shown in the dialog box below. Your options include formatting text, font, color, and even the direction of the text. Experiment with the Washout or Semitransparent options.
- Pick Apply to preview your watermark. Choose OK to add the watermark to your document.
To add a watermark in Word 2003:- Choose the Format menu and then Background > Printed Watermark.
- Build your custom watermark from choices in the dialog box (similar to the example above).
- OK to apply the watermark to your document.
To add other page effects to a Word 2003 file including gradient effects, a solid color background or even a picture: - Pick the Format menu and then Background.
- Click on More Colors or Fill Effects and choose the effect you want to add to the entire document.
To add other page effects to a Word 2007 document including gradient effects, a solid color background or even a picture: - Select the Page Layout tab.
- Choose Page Color (in the Page Background group).
- Pick either Colors or Fill Effects and select from the available options.
With just a few clicks, you can easily enhance your work in Microsoft Word with watermarks and other special effects. |
Quick Tips & Tactics  | Easy shortcuts to change text font sizes Try these keyboard shortcuts to quickly change the font size for selected text in Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and even Outlook (unfortunately, not in Excel): - CTRL + ] to increase font size by 1 point size increments such as 12 point to 13 point *
- CTRL + [ to decrease font size by 1 point size increments *
- CTRL + > to increase font size by standard size increments (the same as the size drop-down list, for example, 12, 14, 16, 18)
- CTRL + < to decrease font size by standard size increments
Try these with your next project and notice how much time you save! * In PowerPoint, these shortcuts change size by the standard size increments and not by 1 point size at a time. |
